Practical Solid Modeling for 3D Printing with OpenSCAD
This intensive course will bootstrap you into designing solid models of useful objects suitable for production on a 3D printer.
OpenSCAD, "The Programmers Solid 3D CAD Modeler", describes the 3D geometry of solid objects in the same manner that Postscript handles 2D shapes. Unlike 3D drawing programs, OpenSCAD's text-based language provides precise control over the solid model's components, so that you can set and adjust their exact size, position, and orientation.
You'll produce simple shapes, combine them into complex objects, then arrange the results for successful 3D printing. Should the Lords of Cosmic Jest permit, we'll print a few small items during class to illustrate the concepts.
You must bring:
1) A laptop with OpenSCAD already installed and working:
2) A standard PC mouse with a scroll wheel for object manipulation
Maximum attendance: 10
