Cheapskate CAD and Graphic Design: An Introduction to Inkscape
In the world of open-source, Inkscape (http://inkscape.org/) is a popular tool for creating scalable high quality graphics. Graphic designers use it to create scalable, print-ready images. Would-be engineers use it as a part of their CAD/CAM setup for controlling various CNC machines like the Eggbot (http://egg-bot.com/).
In this workshop, we'll cover the basics of what vector art is, where Inkscape fits in, and many of the tools you'll need to finish your projects in Inkscape. We are trying to schedule a trip over to Brainstorm Laserworks, so that you'll be able to use your new found knowledge to create a design which you can then cut or etch on the 40W Epilog laser they have.
NOTE: While there is no official fee for this workshop, we do suggest a $30 donation. All proceeds will go to support Squidwrench in the new space at Studio 81 and hopefully to help build up some funds toward future projects. Once we schedule a trip to Brainstorm, we will suggest a donation for that as well. A portion of that will go directly to Brainstorm as a thank you for hosting us and generally being supportive.
