Apocalypse Series - Homebrewing 1

Date and Time:
Sun, 2013-02-03 10:00 - 11:00

When the zombie/robot/ninja/everything apocalypse happens, how will you survive? Learn valuable skills by attending our apocalypse series meetups!

In this two week event, we will learn how to make and bottle beer with Jack Chastain, a homebrewing officianado. We will be making an Irish red that will be ready for consumption by St. Patrick's day. Everyone attending will be able to take home bottles of beer after the second week's meeting. The details are as follows:

First meeting - Brewing
Date: Sunday, Feburary 3rd
Time: 10am-2pm
Place: Jack Chastain's house

Second meeting - Bottling - and maybe brewing #2?
Date: Sunday, Feburary 10th
Time: 10am-12pm (or more)
Place: Jack Chastain's house

FAQ:

  1. What should I bring with me?
    • Warmish clothes. We will not (necessarily) be "outside" - I have a (moderately) heated garage we will use, doors closed. It should be warm(er) than outside. Chairs will exist and there may even be snacks and drinks. both and cold. Bring anything you like, but don't feel obligated.
  2. Is there a cost for this event?
    • There is some cost involved in order to obtain the brewing materials. A $5-$10 donation would be appreciated. Cost to the participants will cover the brew supplies purchased for it - so you will "own" your own beer here. At the end of the bottling day, you will take home a quantity of beer that is an even distribution among all the participants. We will talk about further brewing and discuss costs.
  3. What if I can't make one of the meetings?
    • You have to be in it to win it - those doing the work, get the beer. We may be making a second batch on the bottling day (which would require an additional bottling meeting). Stay tuned.
  4. Do I have to know anything abut zymurgy? Do I have to know what zymurgy is, or how to pronounce it?
    • That's the main point of this meetup - no experience needed, only a desire to learn to make some of the best beer you have ever had.
