This is Field Day, an ARRL event. I'm not a ham, but I am a little bit ham-curious.
Let me know if you'd like to join me at this. I'll be going to the Accord location. There are Dutchess county sites too.

"Amateur Radio operators set up portable stations at emergency sites and got
information into and out of the affected areas. We handled personal
messages, supply requests, and anything else that had to be communicated."
Amateur Radio operators in Ulster County will join with thousands of
colleagues to practice their emergency capabilities on June 23 and 24. The
annual "Field Day" event is sponsored by the ARRL, the national association
for Amateur Radio. Field Day operators set up and operate portable stations
under simulated emergency conditions where no infrastructure is available.
Using only emergency power supplies, ham operators construct emergency
stations in parks, shopping malls, schools and backyards around the country.
The Ulster County Field Day site, sponsored by the Overlook Mountain club,
is the Town of Rochester Park in Accord. Hams will operate from noon
Saturday to noon Sunday and the public is invited to participate.
