Project-of-the-month

Since we're trying to do a project a month, we should probably get some ideas out there. So far we have:

  1. desktop trebuchet kit
  2. papercraft

Anyone have other suggestions? A suggestion or vote for one of these?

I have a project- Mr Dragorn

I have a project- Mr Dragorn and I are currently in possession of 2 HP 1315 series printers, and we need the stepper motors (if not more) out of them. If it sparkles with the group, we can bring them in for a project of the month for help in the demolition.

As a slightly more dangerous

As a slightly more dangerous and tool intensive project, there's always cutting wine bottles into tumblers/mugs.

The equipment was purchased / contributed by Thor, Dragorn, Kyle, and m'self, and thus it's truly a group investment.

All a person would need to do is empty a wine bottle and bring it. I also suggest some glass 12 oz bottles to practice on. Chances are you won't get this right on your first try (or your fifth, unless you're just gonna show me up, then you'll be a master on your first go), so you'll want a couple extras to try it out on.

Tools:

Emery Paper (that strip sandpaper that dragorn used)the Glass cutter/roller boardset of clamps to hold the board to a table5 gallon bucketcold waterelectric hot water potbig glovessomething to protect your eyesBig tarp to collect powdered glass from getting on the floor of the children's education room

I'll re-state that I'm hesitant about this, since it does involve glass, powdered glass, possible shattering... But I enjoyed making some glasses for self and friends, and I suspect it's not too unreasonable to expect other wrenchers to want to do something similar.
