I will hopefully be speaking to an organization called Families First later this week about a cooperation which may earn us a cheap, dedicated space in Poughkeepsie. They have a lot of space that the rent to other community-focused groups, and some rooms that they rent to members of the community for events. As part of this conversation, we will be discussing arrangements which could be beneficial to our organization and theirs.
Nothing is decided but some of the (very nebulous) things which we may be talking about may include some kind of mentorship program or other arrangement where we can provide demonstrations or workshops to some of the children they're helping out or help with some technical goals they may have. I won't obligate us as a whole or any individual to something without discussing it with a larger group but I'm interested in any ideas you folks might have for ways we could help a group like this.
Here's their 'about us' page:
I don't have much more information at the moment, other than the fact that their space is an old high-school building. Like I said, I won't obligate us to anything. I'll also try to cover practical, non-functional aspects of our potential cooperation (like insurance and liability concerns, whether or not we'd need a proper incorporation, etc) if the conversation gets that far.
So, what do you think? Any thoughts on what might get you excited about, interested in, or at the very least willing to work with this group?
Did the meeting happen yesterday? How did it go if it did?
I found this space on CL Violet Avenue in Poughkeepsie $300

I will be talking to them on Thursday afternoon, so if we still have the meeting I'll update everyone then. If you'd like to have some input you have until then to either post here or get in touch with me directly.
The meeting went very well and AL and I are putting together a proposal to submit later this week. It looks like we'll be able to work out a free space in exchange for helping them setup some sort of program. Out initial proposal is around Sqwr running an open computer lab for 3-4 hrs per week. We're writing it up in Google Docs, so once it's ready I'll add anyone who's interested to the acl. We'll take any feedback and hopefullty be able to send it to FF early next week (or sooner, if it all looks good).
I'm interested. Please add me!
I added a few people to the list. You should've gotten an email if I did. Check it out and let me know what you think.
EDIT: Thank you, blocke, for your comments. The changes have been incorporated.
