Does anyone have any suggestions for features for a mini-expo in January?
AL, I think you said you'd like to do some sandblasting again, so that's pretty easy. The no-solder drawdio on HaD today looked kind of fun. Something not necessarily electronics focused might be good, too. Something mechanical like a trebuchet or marble run, maybe? Or something crafty like crocheting little C'thulus or needle felting a plush robot?
Does anybody have any date/location preference?
Welcome! We should be scheduling the weeklies again soon, so either keep your eye on the calendar here or weigh in at #squidwrench on freenode.
i just joined today. i've been looking for a local group like this for a while. i'll keep a look out for your next meeting
I'm trying to meet up with some of the CS and ECE people over at SUNY New Paltz to see if we can get some students or professors to check it out. We should probably reach out to the Marist computer society, too.
If we do get students interested, I would think something toward the beginning of their semesters would be ideal. I think the last weekend in Jan is the first weekend Marist and New Paltz are both back in session. I think pladd is not available that weekend, though, so we wouldn't have access to the church.
I think having a larger event in April would be a good idea, too. If we could do something on one of the campus, that might help get more people interested.
I say the church would be a good location because it's easy to get to and has plenty of space. As for the date, I will be going to a wedding at some point in January (they aren't sure when it's happening yet... had to move it up from June... ), so I have no idea when I'm free.
Something to also consider is how we can get new people to come to this expo.
