Arduino and Accelerometer/Gyroscope

I'm sure The Google will provide me with a ton of information but has anyone here had any hands on experience with particular accelerometer or gyroscope chips? As you probably gathered from the subject I'm mainly interested in interfacing with an Arduino. Ideally I'd like to be able to use the same module with my Launchpad or PICs later.
